The place was designated as a Historic site No. 68 in 1963.At Yongun-Ri, hundreds of kiln sites were found scattered sporadically throughout the area. Among them, Sadang-Ri is the place where the finest Koryo celadons were baked. A new klin was established in 1977 to reproduce the beautiful Koryo celadons which had not been made for about six hundred years. Potters begins by creating a shape out of clay and then imprint on the shape, by means of etching, an inscribed pattern. Then celadon is fired for the first time at the temperature of 800°C. The second firing at 1300°C takes place after the natural glazes are applied.It takes 70days and 24 stages before the completion of a celadon piece. However there are more damaged pieces than end-products because the working process is time-consuming and can be stressful. So complete pieces have a high value in the world of art due to the harmony of the etched design, the mysterious color, and the elegant shape of the piece.The works of Kangjin-yo have a high degree of solidity and practicality. Therefore, the number of people preferring them is increasing.
