Essential Oils and Aroma Joint Stock Company (ENTEROIL) is a Hanoi registered Stated owned company belonging to the Viet Nam National Centre for Natural Science and Technology.

ENTEROIL is the first company in Vietnam specializes in production, processing and exporting of essential oils and isolates.
ENTEROIL is also dealing with tree resins, gums, agroforestry and pharmaceutical products.
ENTEROIL is proceeding to import nonnative essential oils, flavors, fragrances, chemicals products.
ENTEROIL products have been exported to European, US and Asian market with large quantity and highly appreciated by the customers because of good quality, competitive price and quick service.
ENTEROIL was a recipient of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) support to bring its equipments and technology up to international standards.
ENTEROIL has a well qualified and skilled work force as well as fully equipped quality control department with State granted authority to issue certificates of quality for essential oils destined for export.
ENTEROIL is proceeding joint ventures with overseas and domestic organizations in the production and trading essential oils.

Concept and rationale:

Essential oils are a relatively high value, low commodity, which can be grown in areas where the infrastructure is poor and where the transport costs make other options unattractive. In the Tuyen Quang Province (for example), North of Hanoi, just such conditions are encountered. There is an abundance of undeveloped land, which is unattractive for other agricultural exploitation due to a lack of local markets and the relatively high cost of transportation for bulky crops such as cassava and maize. Also, citronella flourishes in this region (as would many other essential oils) due to an ideal mixture of good soils and optimum climate.

ENTEROIL has established a good reputation among overseas buyers for being a reliable supplier of good and consistent quality oils. The company is also constrained from improving its quality due to the old age processing distillation units, which result in higher productions costs compared to a more modern technology. They also generate relatively high levels of liquid and solid wastes.

Previous Project description

VIE 84 010 project: Developing Attar and Flavoring in Vietnam

From 1986 to 1990, the company (previously known as the Vietnam National Center for Natural Science and Technology) was sponsored by the UN with the VIE 84 010 project Developing Essential Oils and Aroma in Vietnam with total of 1.1 billion USD. Thanks to this project, the company has been equipped with essential equipment for distilling, producing, and examining the quality of the essential oils. This supports the development of essential oils, its construction of international standard, and helps train a group of scientists and technicians to enhance their technological knowledge in the field of production, distillation and export in Vietnam in general. VIE 84 010 was assessed by the UNDP as the most successful project in Vietnam. Thanks to these results, the Essential Oils and Aroma Joint Stock company has continuously developed and become the leading company in the field of essential oils in Vietnam. At the same time, the company is an effective and efficient supporting unit for the development of the essential oils and aroma section in Vietnam in the previous years.
