Since its establishment in Chunju on Jan. 1, 2003, Chungbuk Chilbo Co., a leading chilbo manufacturer, has been producing excellent traditional chilbo craftwork. Chilbo means "seven jewelries," referring to such valuables as gold, silver, glass, nacre, crystal, agate, and coral, which are known to originate from Egypt's Royal Palace about 5,000 years ago. The chilbo craftwork, whose brilliance is next to that of diamond, is crafted with precious metals such as gold, silver and copper, coated with colorful enamel made of glass powders. A chilbo piece is created through several high temperature (800~900 degrees) processes. Chilbo is classified according to manufacturing technique employed in creating it: linear chilbo (those with silver lining), lineless chilbo made of enamel only, and pangeum chilbo made of punched metal. The main ingredients of chilbo enamel include silica, soda ash, borax, boric acid, and the enamel may be either made transparent or semi-transparent. These ingredients, when blended and crafted correctly, produce clear and brightly colored works. We, Chungbuk Chilbo Co., continuously research and develop various colors and products for customers who like chilbo. We also produce chilbo of various designs to encourage its further development and promote it as a major commodity for tourism.
